What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage is based on the ayurvedic system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. It provides Indian families with relaxation and healing on a daily basis, as well as playing a part in rituals such as weddings and births, not to mention everyday events like a trip to the barber. The massage skills acquired are passed down through the family from mother to daughter, father to son. It is still common to see head massage being performed on street corners, the market and the beach in many parts of India.

The aim of Indian Head Massage is to release the stress and tension that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders.

This type of massage induces a sense of calmness, tranquillity and releases anxieties. It works on areas affected by mental and emotional stress and can bring immediate relief. Please see benefits.

What happens during a Indian Head Massage?

An Indian Head Massage last approximately 30 minutes.

The treatments will normally be performed on a chair, in a seated position but can be performed on a massage table if that is preferable to the client or situation.

Indian Head Massage is a relaxing treatment, which, as the name suggests, concentrates on massaging the head but also includes the neck and shoulders.

A range of techniques are used which include kneading, hacking, stroking and pressure point stimulation.

Indian Head Massage can be given with or without oils, however it is more beneficial with the use of oils. You will remain fully clothed throughout so if you do choose oils I would recommend a vest top.
